A Poem in memory of Arnold_C_Ap_ the fire of West Papua revolution through music.

AfricaMyStory

His songs were the inspiration behind the foundation of “Black Brothers” after he was killed by the Indonesians on April 26th , 1984. Every year West Papua remember April 26th as Arnold Ap Day.

The “Mambesak” band translated as the voice of the bird of paradise remains the fire that still burns deep in the new generation of West Papuans to continue the fight for freedom.
Poem translated from Indonesian…
It is written by a student in memory of the West Papuan music icon.

Arnold C. Ap

of those who have died …
only a name to be respected …
of those who are living …
only a cry to accompany …

haunted ghosts at that time …
afternoon was tense …
the night was tormenting …

thousands of troops occupy the island of paradise ..
from 1961 independence was obtained …
but was seized by force …

they came after we got our independence …
they say it’s their Homeland …
if not life is a reward for no submission..

thousands of soldiers came …
they take off their weapons, close their eyes …
victims fell along the way …

all happened on the land of paradise …
land seized by force …
humans are killed like animals …
wills are forced to join the Republic of Indonesia …

month after month, year after year …
the event is silent in every memory …
in a tense situation …
The army is rife in every corner …

every human on the island of paradise feels dead ..
no wind noise …
no night song …
every house looks barren …

the awaited moment has arrived …
there are songs that are sung answering anxiety …
songs that come from bones …
songs that come from crying …
songs that come from longing …
as if the song answers the question …

the song is born from the heart …
it enters from every ear that hears …
Awaited song has been born …
he became a bridge to liberation …
the song of paradise
nicknamed MAMBESAK …
he became a dammed memory bullet …

Arnold Clemens Ap …
is stored memory for us …
he freed the anxiety of Paradise …
he freed the sound that was silenced …
he sings from every regional language …
he gave birth to an increasingly lost culture …
he united us all …

when the melodious voice sounded wide …
when our identity was revealed …
when our culture began to be lifted …
when our history is dismantled …
he who was our figure was eliminated …
Arnold Clemens Ap Killed …
on April 26, 1984 long ago …

that cruel treatment …
Every sound that is born …
from culture …
from anxiety …
from history …
of course being chased …
tortured …
even killed …

our chief they killed …
but the fire of the chief you will never kill …
the fire has blamed …
he has fused with the wench of flesh …
he has fused with our breath …
one falls and a thousand spring up…
