The Chairman of the Organisasi Papua Merdeka/Free Papua Movement (OPM/FPM) thanked God for the freedom that the people of Vanuatu had as an independent nation that continuously support West Papua’s right to self-determination taking advantage of the freedom they have as an independent country equal to all other nations in the world.
As he posted on his personal Facebook timeline speaking in his capacity as the Chairman of the Organisasi Papua Merdeka and its military wing the West Papua National Liberation Army (OPM TPNPB); “wish the people of Vanuatu a happy 40th Independence celebration”. The relationship between the people of Vanuatu and West Papua dates back to the 1970s which the Vanuatu government has consistently proven to the pacific and the world that the support Vanuatu government and the people had for West Papua self-determination is unshakable.
Mr Bomanak ended his message by quoting the founding father and the first President of the Republic of Vanuatu Mr Walter Lini’s statement about the freedom of the Melanesian people in the region; “If there is a Melanesian nation that is not yet independent, then Vanuatu is not yet independent. Walter Lini”.
The Republic of Vanuatu was the second newly independent nation of the African family that recognized the inalienable rights of the Papuan people to self-determination at the time apart from Senegal in the African world. The OPM upon its independence proclamation on 1st July 1971 in Markas Victoria was invited by the government of Senegal to open its first diplomatic office in the continent of Africa starting in the midst of 1970s. Ten years later was invited by Vanuatu upon its independence in 1980 to open its office also in Vanuatu. The two countries provided and showed the people of West Papua the love and compassion of African brotherhood that West Papuan people will cherish for all time to come.
Here is a video link https://youtu.be/kzn3Ep-bxds explaining the OPM’s diplomatic progress after the proclamation of the nation of West Papua in 1971. The OPM continue to maintain the struggle in all fronts; political, military and diplomatic fronts for the purpose of garnering support from the international community to fight to claim their nation back from Indonesian colonialism.
