GPAN Endorses Kenya’s bid to UN Security Council

GPAN  STATEMENT ON KENYA’S BID TO UN SECURITY COUNCIL

DATED: 16/09/2019

Global Pan Africanism Network (GPAN) as a Pan African organization  endorses Kenya’s bid to secure a seat in the UN Security Council during June 2020 elections.

Kenya has set an exemplary record in mediating over crisis in the horn of Africa and has played a key role in promoting peace in Somalia and South Sudan.

Having been endorsed by the African Union we strongly believe that it is the only country which can best represent the interests of Africans and people of African descent.

Indonesia has systematically violated  every human right and freedoms of Indigenous people  yet it was elected to UN Human Rights Council in 2017 and to the UN Security Council in 2019.

Indonesia  invaded West Papua in 1963 and killed over 500,000 innocent civilians yet its defence minister Wiranto wanted for crimes against humanity has never been apprehended.

Currently Indonesia has deployed thousands of its Military in West Papua who are beating up people to death, killing innocent civilians, setting houses on fire and leaving Indigenous black people displaced.

The people of West Papua have inalienable right to determine their destiny and urgent action is needed to end this slow black genocide against Indigenous people.

Africa as a continent has all rights to be given a permanent seat at UN Security Council and Kenya is best placed to represent Africa as a nation .

We appeal to the Caribbean,European ,Asian,Latin America and Pacific Countries to support Kenya’s bid for non permanent seat at  United Nations Security Council on condition that Kenya  advocates for decolonization of West Papua.
