MY AUTOBIOGRAPHY (Merit Portfolio)

I, Francis Chishala, was born on the 7th April 1971 at Kafwimbi’s Village, Chief Mukupa
Katandula, of Mporokoso district of northern province of Zambia. My Father whose name
is Kafula Chishala Chongo, a Zambian, was born in 1945 in Mporokoso. He is a Bemba
by Tribe. My Mother whose name is Mulunga Ndashi, also a Zambian, was born in 1950
at Kapesha Village, Mansa, Luapula province. She is Ushi by Tribe. At the age of 7,
Francis Chishala was attacked by Polio, a disease that causes physical paralysis. During
the time of this ailment, he was taken to Mporokoso District Hospital for medical treatment.
During his medical treatment, the doctors recommended that he be referred to the
University Teaching Hospital (UTH), Lusaka to be further examined by the then Cuban
doctors. On the 27th July 1979, Francis Chishala was operated on both legs and was
given a wheelchair as a means of locomotion to date.
In 1980, Francis Chishala first enrolled in early education at Cheshire Homes for the
Physically Handicapped Children, Lusaka, Zambia where he did his nursery School
education supported by the Roman Catholic Charities of the Sisters of Mercy.
In 1984 Francis Chishala enrolled in Grade 1 at Cheshire Homes up to Grade 7 and was
selected to Grade 8 at Chileshe Chepela Wansongo Basic School for the Physically
Handicapped, Kasama, northern province of Zambia, where he completed Grade 9 and
was also selected to grade 10 at Kabulonga Boys’ High School, Lusaka where he
completed Grade 12 Full Certificate in November, 1991.
In 1994, Francis Chishala was accepted at the Zambia Telecommunications Staff
Training College, Ndola, Zambia where he completed a Certificate in
Telecommunications and Public Policy and graduated with a Merit. In 1996, he also
completed a Diploma in Management and Development Studies and graduated with a

and Development Studies and graduated with a Merit in Library Science. Currently, he is
holding a Bachelor of Library Science (BSc) degree from Atlantic International
University (AIU) Honolulu, Hawaii, in The United States from February 21, 2014 –
February 21, 2018.
He is a founder of ADVANCED ARTS SERVICES (AAS) a registered Company with
disabled persons partners as well as the founder of AFRICA VISION VOICE
FOUNDATION (AVVF) a regional disability movement that advocates for the
implementation of the United Nations (UN) Standard Rules on the Equalization of
Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities in Africa.
In 2005, Francis Chishala was nominated by the former Ruling Movement for Multi-party
Democracy (MMD) to represent the Party the fouth (4th) Regional Summit, Somer set
West, Lord’s Charles Hotel, Cape Town, Republic of South Africa, hosted by the Center
for Policy Studies (CPS), sponsored by the Netherlands Institute for Multi-party
Democracy (NIMD) from October 14-17, 2005.
In 2017/2018, Francis Chishala has been appointed Admissions Counselor by Atlantic
International University (AIU) Zambia.
Finally, he is currently working as the Librarian in the Government Ministry of Fisheries
and Livestock based at Zambia Institute of Animal Health (ZIAH), Mazabuka, Southern
Province of Zambia.
