Two monsters of the twentieth century, Adolf Hitler and Winston Churchill, who was the worst monster?

Media is the most significant and very important propaganda tool in the world. It has been in use by government and elites as the most useful propaganda tool to masses. Media can whitewash any crime and criminal to look innocent. More than 80 percent of this world’s wealth is owned by just 1 percent of the population. And this 1 percent owned one strategic tool, media. When you owned media where the rest of the 99 percent are glued, now, you can perform miracles of convincing the majority that “communism” is a barbaric ideology that kills a lot of innocent people by means of massacres and poverty, while “capitalism” is the opposite. The reality was and is Communism and Socialism was and is a stumbling block of imperialism to independent, South Asian Caribbean, African and South American countries. Both Adolf Hitler and Winston Churchill were pro imperialism, thus capitalists.


Today, many Africans know Adolf Hitler as the worst monster in recent history, and Winston Churchill as the war hero who played a great role in defeating Adolf Hitler the “monster”. Hitler massacred around 6 million Jews, according to media this is the worst human crisis to have ever committed by man in 20th century. Nazism is considered as the most dangerous political ideology by mainstream media even today.

Everybody in the world knows about the crimes committed by Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin but not that of Winston Churchill and King Leopold of Belgium. Why?


I started questioning the narratives of World Wars when I was a teenager as a secondary school history student. The history tries to categorise one as “villain” and other as “hero”. From the point of view both were competing on the same thing of acquiring more empires and become world’s dominant powers. People argue “if it weren’t for Churchill and his allies, this world would be speaking German” who told them English is good for the world? As much as English is good and important in the world today, so it would be German also. I’m not defending Hitler, he was equally evil as Churchill.

Winston Churchill

Winston Churchill’s colonial legacy in Africa and Asia. 

The former British Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain, was forced to resign as Prime Minister. In 1940, Winston Churchill took as new Prime Minister. Britain had conquered empires and Germany wanted to retake what had been taken from her after Germany was defeated in World War I, doing so in conquering vast empires including major powers themselves like France, Belgium and Britain.


In Kenya during “Mau Mau” uprising, Winston Churchill, during his post-war premiership, began his brutal campaign to suppress alleged associates of “Mau Mau”, in order to protect the privileges of the white settler population at the expense of the indigenous people. During the emergency period from 1952 to 1960, it was recently revealed that over 300,000 Kikuyu had been either killed or were ‘missing’, during census which was held immediately after the emergency. The total numbers of settlers who died were 32, fewer than 200 British soldiers and policemen were killed and 1800 ‘loyal’ Africans died. White officers sexually abused both male and female detainees. Barbara Castle writing for the tribune 1955 said, “In the heart of the British Empire in Kenya, there is a police state where the rule of law has broken down, where the murder, rape and torture of Africans by Europeans goes unpunished and where the authorities connive at its violation.”


Elkins says some victims’ skin was burnt off and they were forced to eat their own castrated testicles. One particular Kikuyu man was electrocuted to death, his testicles and ears already cut off while one eyeball hung out of the socket. She says “The men were sodomised by their guards, and bottles, brooms, animals, and insects were forced into their rectums. They were pinned to the ground or tied to tables whilst their penises and testicles were beaten and torn from their bodies. Fighters were tied to backs of the Land Rovers and driven around the village to slow and painful deaths and to scare other villagers. Men and women were made to run around with toilet buckets on their heads and sometimes they were made to eat their excrement in their buckets. Sometimes the men were forced to carry the decomposing and stinking bodies of killed insurgents, unearthed by British officers. Some were swung around and around by their hair while others were held the necks and their heads banged together until they were unconscious. Pepper and water mixtures were sometimes poured into vaginas of groaning and vomiting women. All these horrors happened under the knowledge of Winston Churchill.


In Sudan, Winston Churchill bragged that he personally shot at least three “savages”
Winston Churchill himself defended British built concentration camps in South Africa for Boers, saying they produced “the minimum of suffering”. The death toll was about 28,000.


When at least 115,000 black South Africans were likewise swept into British concentration camps, where about 30,000 died, he wrote only of his “irritation that Kaffirs should be allowed to fire on white men”.


On his attitude toward other races, Churchill’s doctor, Lord Moran, once said: “Winston thinks only of the colour of their skin.”


As a young officer, he gladly took part in raids that laid waste to whole valleys, destroying houses and burning crops, believing the “natives” to be helpless children who will “willingly, naturally, gratefully include themselves within the golden circle of an ancient crown.”


As colonial secretary in the 1920s, Churchill unleashed the notorious Black and Tan thugs on Ireland’s Catholic civilians, making a hypocritical mockery of his comment: “Indeed it is evident that Christianity, however degraded and distorted by cruelty and intolerance, must always exert a modifying influence on men’s passions, and protect them from once violent forms of fanatical fever, as we are protected from smallpox by vaccination”.


He had his fear-mongering views against Islam, “But Mahommedan religion increases, instead of lessening, the fury of intolerance. It was originally propagated by the sword, and ever since,its votaries have been subject, above the people of all other creeds, to this form of madness”.


“On the subject of India,” said the British Secretary of India: “Winston Churchill is not quite sane…I didn’t see much difference between his outlook and Hitler’s.”


In 1943 a famine broke out in India caused by the British imperial policies. In reply to the secretary of State for India’s telegram requesting food stock to relieve the famine, Churchill wittingly replied: “If food is scarce, why isn’t Gandhi dead yet?”
In reply to Gandhi’s increasing support he said “I hate Indians. They are a beastly people with a beastly religion”.


Up to 3 million people starved to death. Asked in 1944 to explain his refusal to send food aid, Churchill jeered: “Relief would do no good. Indians breed like rabbits and will outstrip any available food supply.”


In 1920 Churchill advocated the use of chemical weapons on the “uncooperative Arabs” involved in the Iraq revolution against British rule.


As British Colonial Secretary, Churchill’s power in the Middle East was immense. He “created Jordan with a stroke of a pen one Sunday afternoon”, allegedly drawing the expansive boundary map after generous lunch. The huge zigzag in Jordan’s eastern border with Saudi Arabia has been called “Winston’s Hiccups “or” Churchill’s Sneeze.”


As colonial Secretary, it was Churchill who offered the Jews their free ticket to the ‘Promised Land’ of ‘Israel’, although they should not “take it for granted that the local population will be cleared out to suit their convenience.” He dismissed the Palestinians already living in the country as “barbaric hoards who ate little but camel dung.”


Churchill clearly displayed his white supremacist ideology to justify one of the most brutal genocides and mass displacements of people in history, based on his belief that “the Aryan stock is bound to triumph”: “I do not agree that the dog in a manger has the final right to the manger even though he may have lain there for a very long time. I do not admit for instance, that a great wrong has been done to the Red Indians of America or the black people of Australia. I do not admit that a wrong has been done to these people by the fact that a stronger race, a higher-grade race, a more worldly wise race to put it that way, has come in and taken their place.”
As Home Minister he had advocated euthanasia and sterilisation of the handicapped.


In 1927, after a visit to Rome, he applauded the budding fascist dictator, Mussolini: “What a man! I have lost my heart! …Fascism has rendered a service to the entire world ..If I were Italian, I am sure I would have been with you entirely from the beginning of your victorious struggle against the bestial appetites and passion of Leninism.”


But years later, in his written account of the Second World War, Winston applauded the downfall of his erstwhile hero: “Hitler’s fate was sealed. Mussolini’s fate was sealed. As for Japanese, they would be ground to powder.”


You all know what happened to Japan when atomic bombs were dropped to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It reflected to Churchill’s earlier statement.


Prime Minister Churchill had ordered the saturation bombing of Dresden, where, on February 13 1945, more than 500,000 Germans civilians and refugees, mostly women and children, were slaughtered in one day by the British Royal Air Force (RAF) and the United States Army Force (USAAF), who dropped over 700,000 phosphorous bombs on the city.


Prime Minister Churchill had said earlier: “I do not want suggestions as to how we can disable the economy and the machinery of war, what I want are suggestions as to how we can roast the German refugees on their escape from Breslau.”


In Dresden he got his wish. Those who perished in the centre of the city could not be traced, as the temperature in the area reached 1600 degree Centigrade.
Instead of being charged with being responsible for millions of death, Churchill emerged as war hero. Instead of being categorised in the same list of Adolf Hitler, Winston Churchill was made a knight of the Order of the Garter, Britain’s highest order of knighthoods, by Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.


This one is Churchill’s horror to people in British occupied empires, Belgium, France, Belgium, Portuguese, Italy and Spain, played the role of suppressing the native people in their subsequent empires in favour of their people. The benefits of colonialism were minimal compared to horrors, horrors which continue to haunt population in Africa up to date.


Somehow the media had succeeded to convince people that “Communism” is barbaric ideology to “wellbeing” of the people, and Hitler is somehow the greatest monster of the 20th century.
